What is a HELOC?

A home equity line of credit, or "HELOC," is a loan that allows you to borrow, spend, and repay as you go, using your home as collateral. Typically, you can borrow up to a specified percentage of your equity. Equity is the value of your home minus the amount(s) you owe on your mortgage(s).

A HELOC is a revolving line of credit, which means it is treated similarly to how a credit card account is treated.

  • That maximum line of credit will fluctuate based on the advances (or purchases) and any payments you make throughout the active period of your HELOC
